The Flags Have Been Raised

Hi all,

It was great to see some of you at our Flag Pole Ceremony this morning.  Check the website for a few pictures and a video.  Now that the rain has subsided, it was nice to have a morning suitable for the ceremonial opening of school.  Please note the new flag flying just below the American flag.  It celebrates the 75th Anniversary of Shore Country Day School.   There are plenty of fun events related to "Shore's Birthday" so be sure to read up on Parent Post and the other various forms of communication to find out more.

Next week, we will get into full swing in Fifth Grade.  In social studies, we will begin with our Honor simulation, which asks our students to assume the identity of a Native American and take a stray to find honor.  Sentences will be up first in grammar, and we will begin with personal narratives in writing.  We will also begin our spelling units.  Quest for Courage is our first novel and it ties in nicely with our social studies simulation.  In math, we will have some review topics as we study number sense to open the year.  There are many more projects and assignments, too many to mention.  Learning in the various specials will also enhance our days.

Additionally, we have the privilege of being Junior Senators during the first term and we will be meeting our Kindergarten buddies as well.  As you can see, it is shaping up to be a fun, productive, and informative month of September.  The energy in this class is amazing, and I thank all the parents for their support.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Mr. Coyle

Excited? I am...

It is the Thursday before the long weekend, and I am here at Shore putting some final touches on the classroom and trying to be sure that I am ready for all the excitement of next week.  Ms. Atkinson helped me to create a blog and we are searching for ways to get my Twitter feed onto the website.  Things are going really well and I can't tell you how nice it will be when the students return to campus.  For now, I hope you all enjoy a long and fun holiday weekend.

See you soon,
Mr. Coyle
